Cable Management the right way!

Since last time I wrote you I have actually got fired and rehired. This transition have helped me understand many things, I can say that much that my old job didn’t impress me a lot when comes to cable management, which basically is why I started to write about this from the beginning. The most horrible thing I remember is our old server room, it was impossible to understand the system that our technician had developed, most probably because there was no such thing as a system when he installed it, so every time something went wrong in the servers it took more than a day to solve the problem, because you simply couldn’t find all the servers and wires fast enough. Another thing that made me anxious at my old work was that nearly every workstation was installed poorly with wires crossing every direction making our whole office looking disgraceful.

Just imagine the relief to see that your new office is a professionally made with no space for clutter. This company is a living example of cable management done right. Instead of absolutely messing up the server room like we did at my previous job they actually spent time doing it right.

The guy who actually took on this project probably had the opportunity to do everything from the beginning. The real deal is that he has made transitions of new servers and patches so easy that he should get a diploma in cable management. So when I and my coworker got the mission to fully extend a running server it was possible, and when we was to exchange the network cables it was so easy that it was like working in a whole new dimension of server rooms, all because they did it the right way from the beginning.

So when you’re installing your company’s server room make sure to do it at a time when you can pull everything a part and install it correctly and systematically from the start. The same rule is applicable on your workstation, just pull everything out and do it from the beginning, it will take more time but it will be worth it.
